At home with Sarah Jane Gottschalk

1 January 1970

In the cozy Kreuzberg district in Berlin we met up with Sarah Gottschalk in her cozy apartment to chat about how to make your personality shine through in your home, memories on printed photos, vacations that never happen and as they say in German - Dekofimmel.

Where I live:

Three years ago we moved into my happy place, our apartment in the cozy Kreuzberg district in Berlin.

With who:

With my boyfriend of 13 years and our two children, aged eight and four.

What I do:

After studying journalism, my best friend and I founded our own online blogazine "This is Jane Wayne" in 2011 . We are currently working on new projects and can't wait to reveal more about them very soon.

Three words that describe me:

Open, funny & in a good mood.

What's your best tip to make your home feel warm and personal?

Fill it with life and love – that's what makes your home a home. Let your personality shine through and don’t be afraid to add some color. Personally, I have a weakness for fun souvenirs and knick-knacks, as we would say in Germany: Dekofimmel!

How do you use our prints to make your home more personal?

For me, the most important thing is that the prints make us feel something, instead of just being decorative. It’s about the stories behind them – life and authenticity.

Do you use photo prints for another purpose than interior?

For years, I've been saying I want to be the person who sends cards to friends and family, as a little window into our family life, and your prints are the ones that will make it happen!

A memory that makes you happy:

I really love all short trips with my family! Honestly, we're not the best at going on vacation… but when we do, we enjoy ourselves to the fullest. That's why there are so many vacay shots in our home: we turn every trip into a vacation! And of course, we hang them on the walls so the vacay feeling stays with us through everyday life.

For me, the most important thing is that the prints make us feel something, instead of just being decorative. It’s about the stories behind them – life and authenticity.

A memory you wish you had captured in a photo:

The wedding of my best friend Nike. It was such a wonderful day and I would have loved to capture it. But we were all so in the moment that nobody thought to press the shutter button!
