Celebrating Kids' Creativity with Nike van Dinther

January 1, 1970

On May 16th, we had the pleasure of hosting an inspiring creative afternoon with the talented writer and digital creator, Nike van Dinther, in Berlin.

This special event, celebrating kids’ creativity, was a fantastic opportunity for children to unleash their imaginations and create freely.

We believe that creativity is at the heart of what makes life special, and we want to encourage parents to capture and celebrate those precious moments in a kid’s art book. The event was a wonderful reminder of the joy and importance of creativity, both for children and adults.

Nike van Dinther, always a source of inspiration, shared a heartfelt message with all of us:

“Dear Parents and Young and Grown-up Artists,

Thank you for being part of our Once Upon event; your presence means a lot. After a long day at work, school, or kindergarten, we often feel exhausted. I, for one, tend to forget many things because of this. However, I never forget what it felt like to be a child: a mix of wonderful and weird moments, always changing.

I was constantly reminded to put on my shoes quickly, not fight with my sisters, share, and be endlessly polite. Of course, now I understand that some rules are very important. But not when it came to that one activity that had no rules, where I could relax, let my imagination run wild, and simply enjoy: painting. In painting, there is no wrong way (except maybe on cupboard doors). Everything is perfect just as it is and as it evolves. That’s why painting is so important—just like all of you. Every single one of you!

My own children create mountains of their artwork. We don’t want to miss a single piece; we want to keep every little splatter. Of course, that’s not feasible—we don’t live in a castle. Sometimes our home is chaotic. And as I’ve already admitted, like most parents, I’m so deeply tired that I not only forget where my head is but also how to keep things orderly. We also have so little time—but luckily, there’s Once Upon!

With the Once Upon app, we can quickly turn any collection of artwork into high-quality photo books that last forever. Whenever we have a moment, in just a few clicks. Simply photograph the “giraffe house,” “banana car,” and “cloud eater” – upload, and done. It doesn’t get any easier—even dads can do it. Thank you for being part of our community!

Have fun exploring and creating,

Yours, Nike"

Encouraging your kid’s self expression through art will let them explore their thoughts and let their imagination run wild. And by transforming their art pieces into a book, you will not only save a tangible journey through their creativity but also show your kids that they should be proud of what they create.
